We have been busy bees for the last month, prepping for the opening of our Cedar Rapids location. So much to do, so little time, but I think we have it “client ready” for our opening on Monday!
We are ready to do Colors, Body Type Analysis and Style Analysis, plus we have a great dressing room for in-office Closet Audits and for our Retainer Shopping clients. Retainer Shopping is a great service aimed at saving you time – we will buy your clothes – complete outfits for you to try on – all you do is show up at our office, try on the items, we review to decide what’s best and then you leave with your outfits! We do the returns! A no fuss way to shop!
If you have been thinking about using our styling services, let us know, we would love to talk with you about how we can help you. We can set up a time for you to stop by one of our offices, have a cup of coffee, and discuss your style needs – free of charge.
We will have an Open House for our new Cedar Rapids location at 625 1st Avenue on December 12th from 5-7. There will be wine, food and giveaways!
Unfussy – that is my favorite thing about a ponytail. Yet it has the ability to be elegant when you dress it up. But getting it just right can be tricky so here are the must know steps to do a fashionable ponytail. First, give your hair some body so your pony isn’t limp. Use some body building mousse or thickening cream to give your hair a little oomph before you blow it out. The classic place to position your pony is two inches above the nape of your neck and it is the easiest pony placement to pull off. If you are not pulling all your hair back, make sure to style your bangs and sides of your hair before positioning, and creating your part if you have one. It will then look more finished once you do pull back your hair and tug a few strands out on the sides. Remember to use some silicone serum to give your hair a little shine. You can find some budget friendly options at discount stores and drug stores that work just as well as the salon brands.
Isn’t it amazing how our skin changes as we age? It’s something we don’t give much thought to when we are in our teens, but once those first fine lines begin to show, we are eager to try and turn back the years! The difference in our skins aging can easily be broke down by the decades.
In our 20’s our skin is generally smooth and firm, but watch UV exposure which can begin the aging process early. At this age skin cells are regenerating every 14-25 days, creating a bright and healthy look.
In our 30’s cell turnover begins to slow, which can lead to dullness and a less even skin tone. Oil production slows and barrier lipids reduce which lead to dryer skin. Make sure you have a moisturizing skin care routine in place to keep skin from drying!
In our 40’s wrinkles are rearing their ugly heads, especially around the eyes, mouth and forehead. Elasticity begins to diminish as collagen and elastin reduce.
In our 50’s we begin losing our skins support structure because of declining estrogen. It is harder to retain moisture and UV damage probably will begin to show through hyper-pigmentation or sun spots. A good concealer will keep us looking fresh!
In our 60’s skin is thinner so wrinkles probably will deepen and that darn gravity will cause a little sagging. Jeez! But don’t despair, remember that it is inevitable to age and we are beautiful at every age, even with skin that may not look as perfect as a teenager.
That’s life, we all struggle with it and I say we should accept it and simply age gracefully. There are always magic creams, anti-aging procedures such as lasers, botox and fillers, and surgery. But all I have to do is take a look at some aging celebrity with her stiff upper lip and expressionless eyes, and I’m convinced that a few wrinkles make a prettier face!
Have you ever looked in a magazine and saw an outfit that stood out as a creation that you wish you had on your body? I call these outfits “Inspiration Outfits”. It’s a fun idea to create a binder of full of these inspiration outfits, which I like to call a Look Book, pulling ideas from fashion magazines, the internet (check out our Pinterest page) and runway photos. When choosing outfits make sure they are a flattering cut to your body, some things that look fabulous in photos are not going to suit you in particular. What is so fun about this is seeing new fashion pieces, then applying it to your wardrobe and mixing things up a bit. It creates whole new outfits that you never would have thought of. Your taking elements from the runway or fashion shoots and combining your wardrobe items that are similar and personalizing your Inspiration Outfit!
Trying to get in and out of the gym without spending a ton of time of your hair? Working out over your lunch hour is a great idea. The problem of putting yourself back together after a hot sweaty workout can be challenging. If sweaty hair is a problem try running a brush through your hair to evenly distribute the moisture, then lightly spray hairspray on your crown (our suggested hairspray? L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hair Spray is the best one on the market!) and blow dry starting at the roots. The hair spray will help give volume and eliminate oils, giving you a fresh look to match that healthy glow.
